MANCHESTER will be pleased to see the back of the Belfast Giants this season after losing 2-1 on Tuesday night - their fourth defeat in five games.

Belfast, who also maintained their title push in the process, led in the first period thanks to a 17th strike of the season by Andrew Martin - his third in three games since returning from injury.

With the second period looking as though it would finish goalless - Manchester's David Beauregard levelled for the Phoenix.

But star turn Martin was in no mood to let Manchester ruin his night and he netted the all-important winning strike early in the third period to seal it for Belfast.

Meanwhile, Coventry refuse to let their league title go without a fight as they won 6-5 in Nottingham, with two goals coming in the last two minutes.

With the game looking dead and buried, Coventry refused lay down and die and Sylvain Deschatelets levelled in the 59th minute, before Erik Hjlamarsson got the winning strike with just 23 seconds left on the clock.
