Chambers double restores Blaze to Elite League lead
COVENTRY Blaze moved back to the top of the Elite League with a 4-3 victory over fellow title challengers Belfast Giants.
Giants dominated the opening period, outshooting the visitors 21-4, but failed to break the deadlock.
And it was to prove telling as Adam Calder struck for Blaze in the 26th minute and, despite Pat Bateman's leveller, Jason Robinson and Greg Chambers restored Coventry momentum.
Colin Shields reduced the deficit but another Chambers strike - four minutes from time - settled Coventry's nerves, although Jeff Szwez forced a frantic finale when he netted his 19th of the season.
Matt Hubbauer scored twice as Sheffield Steelers made it two wins in two nights against Newcastle Vipers, following a high-scoring 6-4 victory.
After their slow start to the season, Steelers have now won in five in six, while Vipers have been defeated in eight of their last nine matches.
Cardiff Devils showed no mercy against bottom side Hull Stingrays in the Welsh capital.
The visitors roster has been decimated by injuries but Max Birbraer's two goals and assists put Cardiff on course for a 6-0 victory.
Elsewhere, David Clarke scored four times in the first two periods as Nottingham Panthers beat Edinburgh Capitals 7-3.
