GREAT Britain suffered their first defeat of their 2010 World Championships in the cruelest of fashions - going down to host Slovenia in overtime.

Slovenia collected a 4-3 victory after the scores were locked at 3-3 after Great Britain had bravely battled back from 2-0 down but Paul Thompson's men were sunk by Ziga Jeglic's overtime winner.

It was rough justice for Great Britain, who had already chalked up impressive victories over Croatia and South Korea but they could not prevent Slovenia moving into pole position in Group IB with their third straight win.

Jan Urbas put Slovenia ahead in the first period and when Rok Ticar doubled their lead in the second, Great Britain looked dead and buried.

But Ashley Tait and Mark Garside struck within 22 seconds of each other to level the scores in the first minute of the final period and, after Ticar restored Slovenia's lead, Jonathan Phillips took the game into the extra period and earn Great Britain a point - only for Jeglic to settle the match inside two minutes.
