Elite League ice hockeyDOUBLES from Greg Chambers and Dan Carlson helped Coventry Blaze inflict a second defeat in 24 hours on Newcastle Vipers.

And in-form Belfast Giants suffered a shock penalty shoot-out loss at struggling Hull to surrender the Elite League lead to their Midlands rivals.

Newcastle were twice ahead against Blaze but two late second period goals, from free-scoring Adam Calder and Carlson, turned the game.

But the real shock was in Hull as Rick Strachan's side ended a six-game losing streak.

Stingrays stalwart Jeff Glowa fired home the winning shot but Hull goalkeeper Tommy Sandahl was the real hero - saving 54 of the 56 shots.

Giants, who were unbeaten in their previous five, lost two players to game misconduct penalties in the first period -  Sean McMorrow for abuse and Colin Shields for high sticks.

Elsewhere, goals from Cameron Mann and Sean McAslan helped Nottingham Panthers to beat Cardiff Devils 2-1.
