LONDON 2012: Missed Olympic tickets? Got a spare 60k?

LONDON 2012 chairman Seb Coe took to the airwaves this morning to defend his organisation's under-fire ticketing strategy.

THANKS: Missed out on Olympic tickets? Don't worry ... these seats will only cost you just over 60 grand

As he dashed from radio car to studio in a flurry of broadcast interviews, Coe was keen to pump out the message that ‘hundreds of thousands of tickets' were still available and priority will be given to the estimated one million who missed out in the first phase of ticketing.

Indeed, many of those disappointed by their failure to secure any tickets received an email from London 2012 this morning.

However, they probably weren't so happy when they read its contents.

"A table for ten at three iconic Olympic sports," it shouted. "30 top-category tickets with world-class hospitality."

The cost....yours for just £55,900 (plus another 20 percent for VAT).

Fair enough, London 2012 and their hospitality partners Prestige have a job to do and it's creditable that a levy from all corporate entertaining is being used to give schoolchildren the chance to extend the Games.

But such an indiscriminately targeted email shot probably wasn't the smartest move when disappointment for so many is so raw.
