OLYMPICS LONDON 2012: Queen surprises athletes in Olympic Village tour

GREAT Britain athletes were left delighted after Queen Elizabeth II continued her own London 2012 Olympic experience.

After a starring role alongside James Bond in Danny Boyle’s critically acclaimed opening ceremony, Her Majesty toured the village with 150 members of the British Olympic Association, and Locog chairman Seb Coe.

The Queen was accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh as she was shown around the residential block and dining hall by BOA chairman Lord Moynihan, with chef de mission Andy Hunt also present.

Rose Anders, who plays guard for Great Britain women's basketball was one of the athletes blown away by seeing the Queen on her visit.

She said: “She was absolutely brilliant. I was completely in awe. What a great thing for her to come through the Village, meet the athletes and see where we are living.

"This is the first Olympics for us ever (women’s basketball). To come from last night and the opening ceremony, which will never be topped, and now another experience, which will never be topped, is amazing.”

Andrew Pink, who plays men’s volleyball for Great Britain, believes the reaction to Her Majesty’s visit is another example of how everyone has been brought together for the Games.

He said: “Everybody in the country seems to be pulling together.

“You can really feel the passion of the country behind us, and to have this visit today was just amazing. It was very special.”
