British quintet to head to World Cup Final in Brazil
GREAT Britain will take a five-strong contingent to the modern pentathlon World Cup Final in Rio de Janeiro later this month.
Olympic silver medallist Heather Fell, Katy Livingston and Mhairi Spence will compete in the women's event on Sunday September 13, while Sam Weale and Nick Woodbridge in the action the day before.
Weale heads to Brazil ranked in eighth place overall, courtesy of three top 20 finishes this season, including a fourth place at the Hungary World Cup.
Woodbridge is 25th out of 32 in the rankings, which are currently topped by world champion Adam Marosi of Hungary.
In the women's event, Spence is the highest placed British woman in 11th place in the rankings, while Livingston is 15th and Fell 19th.
Egypt's Aya Medany and Lithuania's Laura Asadauskaite share the top spot in the women's World Cup rankings - both have two wins and a second place finish as their top three World Cups scores this year.
The 2009 World Cup Final will be the first to feature the sport's new combined run/shoot format, which was also used at last month's World Championships at Crystal Palace.
