KATY Burke will look to build on her breakthrough fourth place at the recent modern pentathlon World Cup in Medway this weekend.

Burke will look to crack the podium in Budapest, where she arrives ranked fifth in the World Cup standings.

It is thought Great Britain performance director Jan Bartu will select his five-strong team for the World Championships in Chengdu based mainly on success in the World Cup series, which concludes in Berlin next month ahead of a final Moscow.

Mhairi Spence, who claimed bronze in Medway, is rested while Burke will be joined in Budapest by Freyja Prentice, who finished ninth in Medway and is currently seventh in the overall standings.

Samantha Murray, seventh in Medway and 12th in the rankings, also travels along with international newcomer Louise Helyer.

However, Olympic bronze medallist Heather Fell will not make the trip, nor will fellow Beijing Olympian Katy Livingston.

Fell was a disappointing 13th in Medway and admitted she is not in the best shape, amid suggestions she was struggling with a new training regime.

Women's qualifying starts tomorrow while Great Britain's men - David Atkinson and Simon Taylor - will look to book their final spots on Friday.
