GREAT Britain's Freyja Prentice claimed silver at the modern pentathlon World Junior Championships - but Kate French just missed out on the podium.

Prentice surged from fifth to second in the concluding run/shoot but couldn't overhaul Hungary's Sarolta Kovacs. France's Elodie Clouvel completed the podium, just ahead of French.

"I'm so happy, there aren't many days that go as well as this," said Prentice, who finished 12th in the recent World Cup Final in Moscow.

"My fence was a bit rough at the start, but then it got better, I had a personal best in the swim and a good ride, but I knew I had to keep my head until after the final shoot, as anything can happen.

"I wish I had won the individual gold, but I would have taken an individual silver and a team gold at the start of the day. She out sprinted me at the end and my legs had nothing left."

However, Prentice and French's performances - and a ninth place from Samantha Murray - helped Great Britain win team gold ahead of Hungary and France.

Jamie Cooke just missed out on winning Britain’s third medal of the World Junior Championships when he finished fifth in the men’s individual competition.
