The 26-year-old modern pentathlete, who bagged silver in Beijing last summer, finished a disappointing ninth at August's World Championships in Crystal Palace while she could only muster a best World Cup finish of tenth last season.

A European silver medal demonstrated the Brit's pedigree but Fell has been forthcoming in suggesting London's first Olympics for 64 years does not feature highly on her list of priorities.

But Fell has now announced she will spearhead Great Britain's challenge in London.

"I have recently decided that I will carry on until the London [2012 Olympics]," Fell told the Plymouth Herald.

"And that is far as I can see. I will be 29 then and I think then it will be time for a new challenge.

"I want to start building up to something I can retire to."

Fell will spearhead a strong Great Britain challenge at the London Olympics with the likes of Mhairi Spence and fellow Beijing Olympian Katy Livingston also at the disposal of Modern Pentathlon performance director Jan Bartu.

The trio confirmed their talent at the World Championships, claiming team silver, and while Fell could only finish ninth in the individual event, she later admitted she was struggling with illness.

Fell's decision to carry on until London could also have something to do with an impressive fourth-place finish at the World Cup Final in Rio de Janeiro last month.
