JAMIE Cooke just missed out on the medals at the European Junior Modern Pentathlon Championships in Portugal .

The 19-year-old from Cheltenham put together a series of consistent performance across all of the disciplines in Golega, including equalling his personal best in the 200m freestyle, with a time of one minute 52 seconds that eclipsed all his rivals.

"It was a good result for Jamie," said national coach Philipp Waeffler.

"He is a first year junior and he was the youngest of the athletes up there in the top group."

Poland's Remigiusz Golis took gold while Britain's other finalist, James Myatt, was 32nd.

Great Britain's Katy Burke, Samantha Murray and Lydia Rosling have all qualified for Thursday's women's final.
