Majdic, who recently won her first World Cup of the year in Davos, clocked 6.35.30.

Meanwhile, Russia's Natalia Korosteleva claimed second and Poland's Justyna Kowalczyk finished third, to close the gap on overall World Cup leader, Norway's Marit Bjoergen, to just seven points.

Majdic - who placed third in last year's Tour and won the sprinters classification - will now carry a 15 second time bonus into tomorrow's 10km pursuit.

Reigning champion and two-time winner, Finland's Virpi Kuitunen, finished 15th, 34 seconds behind the early leader.
