Joensson and Prochazkova secure wins in Vancouver
EMIL Joensson of Sweden and Slovakia's Alena Prochazkova won cross-country ski sprint races on the slopes for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
Joensson dominated the 1.6-kilometre men's race in the classic style in 3:37.4 minutes for his second career victory.
Three-time season winner Ola Vigen Hattestad of Norway had to settle for second while German Josef Wenzl completed the podium after the original third-place finisher Ivan Ivanov of Russia was disqualified after the race.
Prochazkova got her first career World Cup in the women's race over 1.3km in 3:13.9m from Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland and Sweden's Anna Olsson.
Many top stars had not made the trip to Whistler after the Tour de Ski as they aim to train for the World Championships in the Czech resort of Liberec which start in mid-February.
As a result there were no changes atop the World Cup standings, with Switzerland's Dario Cologna atop the men's list with 835 points and Aino Kaisa Saarinen of Finland the dominant woman with 978 points.
