NORWAY'S Magnus Moan claimed the Nordic combined World Cup event in Oberhof with an impressive cross country ski.

Moan was ranked seventh after the ski jump but overhauled his handicap to finish just three tenths of a second ahead of American Todd Lodwick.

World Cup leader Annsi Koivuranta, of Finland, settled for third - despite jumping six metres further than his nearest rival earlier in the morning.

Koivuranta retains the lead of the World Cup standings after nine events - with a 92 point advantage over Moan, who has won two events.

The tenth round will be staged at Oberhof tomorrow.
