In a weakened field, which didn't feature World Cup leader Jason Lamy Chappuis or world champion Bill Demong, the 21-year old landed himself a 14 second lead after the ski jump which he extended to 32.6 in the cross country ski.

Home favourite Mario Stecher finished second while Japan's Akito Watabe secured his first World Cup podium, 43.7 behind Frenzel in third.

Lamy Chappuis remains on top of the World Cup standings on 969 with Austria's Felix Gottwald, who finished sixth in Austria, second on 629 and Frenzel up to third on 581.

Sunday's second race in Seefeld is the final competition before the Winter Olympics which starts on February 12.
