21:00 (-8 GMT): Over on the hockey rink and Sweden have wrapped up a comfortable 6-2 win over Slovakia courtesy of a Pernilla Winberg's four goals - much better from Slovakia though!

20:45 (-8 GMT): A sublime performance from Pang Qing and Tong Jian has piled the pressure on Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo - this is far from over!

20:30 (-8 GMT): A bit of a shocker for the Russians and not perfect from Germany's Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy - surely it's Shen and Zhao's to lose

20:20 (-8 GMT): Time for the big guns in the pairs now. Russian European champions Yuko Kavaguti and Alexandre Smirnov up first, bidding to keep the gold medal in Russian hands

It has been since Innsbruck 1964!

20:10 (-8 GMT): Germany's Tatjana Hufner leads the way at the halfway mark of the women's luge with a blistering second run

20:03 (-8 GMT):  MO TAE-BUM  wraps up 500m speed skating gold, just a day after his 21st birthday

20:00 (-8 GMT): Great Britain's Shelley Rudman has been speaking about the controversial Whistler Sliding Centre track and her medal chances

19:58 (-8 GMT): Canadian duo Jessica Dube and Bryce Davison move into second place in the pairs but Lady Luck will have to be very kind if they are to get a medal

19:48 (-8 GMT): It's soon to be the turn of the big four pairs at the Pacific Coliseum but first the second Canadian pair of Jessica Dube and Bryce Davison

19:47 (-8 GMT): Things are hotting up in the speed skating now............ Keiichiro Nagashima of Japan currently leads with eight skaters to go

19:40 (-8 GMT): New leaders in the pairs, despite a stumble from Zhang Hao as he and Zhao Dan move to the top of the leaderboard

19:30 (-8 GMT): Not quite good enough for Canadian duo Anabelle Langlois and Cody Hay. They certainly won't be troubling the podium

19:17 (-8 GMT): New leaders in the pairs - Tatiana Volosozhar and Stanislav Morozov have raised the bar with a stunning performance to take their tally to 181.78

Now it's the turn of the pairs ranked eighth to fifth - bronze is not out of the question for any of them if a flawless performance materialises

There are two Canadian pairings as well - expect fireworks!

19:15 (-8 GMT): They're at the halfway point in the second run of the men's 500m and it is Kyle Parrott who leads much to the delight of the Canadian home crowd

18:59 (-8 GMT): Germany's Samuel Schwarz is into the lead in the 500m speed skating dash

18:52 (-8 GMT): Fabulous performance from the second American pair at Richmond Olympic Oval - they're a full nine points ahead

18:44 (-8 GMT): The speed skating is into its second run now over at the Richmond Olympic Oval - let's hope there are no more delays

18:40 (-8 GMT): And now it's time for the second American pair. Amanda Evora and Mark Ladwig take to the ice....

18:30 (-8 GMT): The first of the women's luge runs is over and it is Nina Reithmayer, despite never having won on the World Cup circuit that leads

18:18 (-8 GMT): What a difference a day makes - much, much better from the Americans - great throws and that must be them into the lead

18:13 (-8 GMT): Here come the first American pairing of Caydee Denney and Jeremy Barrett. Their US champions but we're a touch disappointing in the short program

18:11 (-8 GMT): Swiss duo Anais Morand and Antoine Dorsaz have had a bit of a shocker! A fall each - I blame their burberry outfits

18:03 (-8 GMT): There's a break in the speed skating - they'll be back underway at 18:40. But things have been turned up a gear in the pairs as we edge ever closer to a showdown between Shen and Zhao and Savchenko and Szolkowy

17:58 (-8 GMT): And over at the Richmond Olympic Oval, it's Finland's Mika Poutala who leads the way after the first run of the 500m. He'll do battle in the second round with Tae-Bum Mo

17:57 (-8 GMT): In the women's luge Nina Reithmayer still leads on the first run with six competitors to go

17:56 (-8 GMT): Good scores for the Brits though - 91.66 from the free skate gives them 139.94 overall and puts them in first place! I've a feeling they won't stay there though

17:52 (-8 GMT): A minor mishap on the triple loop is not going to work in their favour......

17:50 (-8 GMT): Stacey Kemp and David King on the ice now in the Pacific Coliseum, they enjoyed their Olympic debut yesterday, but are looking for more today

17:43 (-8 GMT): Wotherspoon's lead was shortlived - Tae-Bum Mo flies into the lead!

17:40 (-8 GMT): We're back on the ice at the Richmond Olympic Oval and Canadian Jeremy Wotherspoon storms to the top of the leaderboard with a time of 35.09 - blistering!

17:30 (-8 GMT): An energetic if error-strewn routine from Estonian pair Maria Sergejeva and Ilja Glebov. Ten out of ten for effort but about 2.5 for ability

17:28 (-8 GMT): They're about halfway through the first run in the women's luge in Whistler and Austria's Nina Reithmayer is top of the leaderboard at the moment with three German sliders hot on her heels

17:26 (-8 GMT): Still nothing to report from the speed skating, other than a lot of stonefaced people in suits walking around. You'd have thought they'd be prepare for this kind of problem......

17:24 (-8 GMT):  Brits Stacey Kemp and David King will be first to go in the second group, bidding to improve on their current position of 16th

17:20 (-8 GMT): Much like the majority of winter sports, the medal contenders will be going off last in the pairs free program - but we've got some entertaining duos nonetheless

17:08 (-8 GMT): En route to the skating from the downhill but it's going to be tighter than Chemmy Alcott's ski racing suit - Sportsbeat's James Toney, on the Sea to Sky Highway

17:07 (-8 GMT): We've been assured the speed skating will get back underway at 17:30 - I for one am not holding my breath

17:01 (-8 GMT): And the women's luge has just begun, albeit from the juniors start house - much to the disgruntlement of a number of competitors

17:00 (-8 GMT): Still no action on the ice in Richmond Olympic Oval, but over at the Pacific Coliseum, the figure skating pairs free program will be getting underway shortly

16:50 (-8 GMT): It's all over at UBC Thunderbird Arena and Canada have cantered to a 10-1 win. Congratulations to Switzerland though for al least finding the net

16:39 (-8 GMT): The Dutch manager is out on the ice following the re-surfacing machine to make surre everything goes to plan while the woman on the PA is trying to keep the crows entertained. She's not doing a very good job - she's stopped
