Great Britain set for World Cup success in Lucerne
GREAT Britain's Matt Wells and Marcus Bateman exacted revenge for their Henley Royal Regatta defeat by romping through to the semi-finals at the Lucerne World Cup in Switzerland.
The double scull duo eased ahead of French double Cedric Berrest and Julien Bahain to turn the tables, after losing out to the pair last week.
It capped a successful day for Great Britain, who qualified 13 semi-finalists in Lucerne with the women's eight and the quad scull already through to Sunday's final.
British Rowing performance director David Tanner said: "We have had a consistent morning of racing at the biggest world cup there has ever been. All the top nations are here," he said.
Among the strongest looking Great Britain boats are Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins, having won their heat of the women's double scull with some style before joining Beth Rodford and Annabel Vernon in the women's quad to fend off world champions, the Ukraine to win and progress direct to Sunday's final.
Single sculler Alan Campbell also looked impressive in advancing into the semis, as did his female counterpart Debbie Flood, who eased her way through her repachage.
