Seven British boats through to finals at Munich World Cup

BRITAIN have laid down a marker at the Munich World Cup - the last international regatta before this summer's Olympics - with seven crews through to the finals after the opening day in Munich.

Helen Glover and Heather Stanning were the first to qualify in the women's pair while Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins claimed their 20th consecutive victory to reach the women's double final.

The men's four of Andrew Triggs Hodge, Pete Reed, Alex Gregory and Tom James were also relatively untroubled and will renew their rivalry with Australia, who they beat at the Lucerne World Cup, in the final.

However the women's lightweight double of Sophie Hosking and Kat Copeland were pushed much harder as were the men's lightweight four of Richard Chambers, Rob Williams, Peter Chambers and Chris Bartley.

Both came through though as did Kathryn Twyman in the women's lightweight single and Alan Campbell in the men's single scull and performance director David Tanner toasted a good day all round.

"We have had some positives here and there and we should remember that while there are some nations missing from those that raced in Lucerne, the quality and intensity of the racing is still very high."
