Britain to have 14 finalists across 12 Olympic classes in Munich

BRITAIN doubled their number of finalists on the second day of the Munich World Cup with now 14 boats across 12 Olympic class events set to battle for medals.

Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter led the charge on day two as seven finalists became 14 winning their lightweight men's double scull semi-final while Alan Campbell followed suit in the single scull.

Campbell will be joined in the final by compatriot Graeme Thomas while Andrea Dennis and Imogen Walsh will line up alongside fellow Brits Sophie Hosking and Kat Copeland, who qualified on Friday, in the women's lightweight double scull final.

Sam Townsend and Bill Lucas safely progressed to the men's double final as did the men's quadruple scull of Stephen Rowbotham, Tom Solesbury, Charles Cousins and Matt Wells albeit via a repechage.

The men's four of Andrew Triggs Hodge, Tom James, Pete Reed and Alex Gregory lost to rivals Australia in the semi-final but will get the chance to exact revenge in the final.

In addition the women's pair and double, women's quad, men's lightweight four and men's and women's eights will race in the finals on Sunday and British performance director David Tanner insists he crews will have to find an extra gear to end with medals.

He said: "We've been on the right side of some of the tight margins, which is a positive for us. Some boats need to race their game but it has It has been a session of high-quality racing."
