With bad weather disrupting the majority of sailing on day one, the Elliott 6m racers were one of just four classes to compete in Biscayne Bay.

But wins against USA's Katy Lovell, Germany's Ulrike Schuemann, Finland's Chita Wahlroos and the Netherland's Mandy Muller put the British crew, ranked second in the world, in control at the top of their round-robin group.

Defending Laser champion Nick Thompson also started successfully, winning his only race on Monday, while Dave Evans and Ed Powys lie eighth after three races in the 49er class.

Finally, Alison Young was the best of the British competitors in the one Laser Radial race as she finished third with Andrea Brewster 14th and Charlotte Dobson 16th.
