ITALY'S Arianna Fontana produced a great display to win gold in the 500m ISU short track speed skating World Cup race in Dordrecht, Netherlands.

With a final time of 44.524 the Italian, who topped the overall rankings with 4800 points, held off Canada's Marriane St-Gelais while compatriot Martina Valcepina was third.

Meanwhile Simon Cho of the USA just clung onto gold despite Yoon-Gy Kwak's best efforts, winning by just over a tenth of a second in the men's 500m, Francois-Louis Tremblay of Canada claimed the bronze.

And Lana Gehring made it a good day for the Americans as she beat Marie-Eve Drolet and Jianrou Li to gold in the women's 1000m.

But JR Celski couldn't quite round the day off for the USA as he had to settle for bronze in the men's 1000m, Jinkyu Noh of Korea taking gold and Olivier Jean silver.
