Austrian ace soars to victory
AUSTRIA'S Gregor Schlierenzauer gigantic first-round 140m leap was enough to seal victory in the second ski jumping World Cup of the season in Trondheim, Norway.
The 18-year-old flyer could not be beaten and followed up his enormous leap with a solid 135m jump on the way to claiming the top prize.
Andreas Jacobsen led the home challenge with 138m and claim third place while another local favourite Andreas Badal, fifth in the opening event of the calendar in Kuusamo, flew out to 139.5m with his first jump - a then course record - eventually good enough for fourth.
And it was another teenager who grabbed second place with 18-year-old Ville Larinto of Finland producing jumps of 138.5m and 138m.
Kuusamo's winner Simon Ammann could not repeat his winning performance - producing a disappointing 132m in the first round and despite upping his second jump to 137.5 it was only good enough for fifth.
But in the end victory went to Schlierenzauer who deservedly topped the podium in a high-quality field with some impressive jumping on show.
