Ammann crowns glittering season with Ski-Flying World title

SIMON Ammann has put the icing on an incredible season taking the title at the Ski-Flying World Championships in Slovenia with his final round jump.

Already leading after two rounds on Friday, Ammann stunned the competition in Planica with his final leap, which just missed the world record of 239 metres.

The win crowned an impressive season for the Swiss ski jumper, after winning two Olympic golds in Vancouver and clinching the overall World Cup ski jumping title.

The 28-year-old collected 935.8 points over four attempts and posted the longest jump of 236.5 metres in the final round.

Rival Gregor Schlierenzauer of Austria, who won team large hill gold in Vancouver, finished with 910.3 points and a longest jump of 230.5 metres.

Anders Jacobsen of Norway took the third spot just ahead of Poland's Adam Malysz, collecting 894 points over the two-day competition.

After crushing the competition this year, the only piece missing from Ammann's trophy cabinet is the Four Hills Tournament, in which he finished second this year.

But the four-time Olympic champion shows no signs of slowing down just yet and has stated he will decide after the 2011 World Championships in Oslo whether to continue his career.
