EDDIE the Eagle is making a comeback just in time for the Winter Olympics - although he's only starring in an insurance commercial.

It's nearly 22 years since the Cheltenham plasterer shot to worldwide fame during the ski-jumping events at the Calgary Olympics, the last time the Games were held in Canada.

He was hoping next year's Games would spark a revival in his fortunes but a long-planned biopic of his life - which was due to star comedian Steve Coogan - has stalled in production.

His part will now be played by Harry Potter star Rupert Grint, with shooting due to commence next year.

In the advert Eddie, who will carry the Olympic torch in Winnipeg on January 7th , squeezes into his trademark powder blue ski suit and even wears his 1988 Olympic bib.

However, he requires assistance after being stuck up a tree.

Some things never change.

Return of a Hero

It's good to see the Eagle has landed a role in Churchill Insurance's advert. The image of Eddie hurtling uncontrollably down a steep incline and needing to be rescued may have a certain resonance for Churchill's current owners, the Royal Bank of Scotland.
