Kilner, who finished seventh in the half pipe in La Molina, complained of rough snow conditions at the event which affected his knee and gave the snowboarder a sprained ankle.

His seventh place allowed him to finish the season ranked tenth overall in the half pipe - the best performance of all the British boarders.

But the 21-year-old has today posted on Twitter that he may have suffered more damage than he originally thought.

"Turns out I may have torn my cartilage! Uh-oh," he tweeted.

While surgery can sometimes be required to repair torn cartilage, Kilner should have time to recoup before the World Cup season begins again in earnest in the autumn.

The Olympian has enjoyed a breakthrough season picking up his first ever World Cup medal by taking bronze in Calgary just weeks before Vancouver, where he finished a creditable 12th despite falling in both his semi-final runs.
