Olympic champion Davis added the 1500m title to his 1000m victory 24 hours earlier, clocking 1.44.47 to finish nearly a second off Norway's Havard Bokko, while Canada's Denny Morrison completed the podium.

American team-mate Chad Hedrick, who beat Davis at the recent US trails, finished a disappointing tenth.

Hedrick and Davis clashed during the 2006 Winter Olympics with the former accusing the latter of letting down his country, after Davis didn't compete in the team pursuit event.

However, it seems that time is a healer.

"I've made no secret that I would love Shani to be part of the team pursuit," said Hedrick.

"If he wants to, we're going to have a great team but if he doesn't then we will still be strong.

"Gold medals are hard to win but we've got one sitting in front of us and we have to go for it."

Davis prioritised personal success in Turin, becoming the first black athlete to win an individual gold at the Winter Olympics.

However, he has steadfastly refused to discuss his intentions towards the team event in Vancouver.

Meanwhile, Germany's Christine Nesbitt gave the home crowd something to cheer about as she won the women's 1500m in 1.44.54, more than a second and a half quicker than Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic.

Canada's Jenny Wolf and China's Beixing Wang shared a race each in the women's 500m.

American, Tucker Fredericks clocked 35.06 seconds in the men's 500m to make amends for his disappointing performance 48 hours earlier, when he finished a disappointing 14th in the first race.

Korea's Kang-Seok Lee leads the World Cup standings after placing first and second in his two races.
