Davis rounds off impressive season with final World Cup win

SHANI Davis rounded off his impressive season with a victory in the 1000m race at the World Cup finals in Heerenveen, the Netherlands.

The American, who won gold and silver medals at the Vancouver Winter Olympics last month, won in a time of 1:08.89 after securing the overall crown last weekend in Erfurt, Germany.

Having already clinched the overall 1500m title too, Davis finished the season in the 1000m a huge 325 points ahead of Mark Tuitert from the Netherlands, who brought his tally to 425 with a bronze medal today.

Stefan Groothuis consolidated his third place in the overall standings as he won silver in Heerenveen.

Canada's Christine Nesbitt took the women's overall 1000m title with 472 points despite finishing seventh while Russia's Yekaterina Shikhova took gold in the final event of the season in 1:16.25 minutes.

Dutch pair Annette Gerritsen and Natasja Bruintjes won silver and bronze respectively.

Meanwhile, the Norweigan men were victorious in the team pursuit while Canada clinched the race for the women.
