ANDY Roddick's temper boiled over at a searing hot Flushing Meadows as the American crashed out of the US Open.

The ninth seed was beaten by an inspired Janko Tipsarevic, who after losing the opening set stormed back to progress to the third round 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6.

Roddick later showed some contrition for an outburst at officials after he'd been called for a disputed foot fault ... although only a little.

"In hindsight, did I let it go too far? Probably," he said.

"I wasn't upset with the call, I just expect my umpires to know their left foot from the right foot.

"I let my stubborness get in the way. I got called for two others after that and have no issue with it. In the moment I was just stupefied.

"It's the fact I couldn't get her to admit it wasn't the right foot which infuriated me, the lack of common sense was unbelievable to me.

"We have got to be able to have a test like 'Point to your right foot, point to your left foot, now call lines.'"

Andy Murray progressed with ease past Slovakia's Lukas Lacko but a likely quarter-final opponent, Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych, is out.

He lost 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 to France's Michael Llodra while John Isner defeated Portugal's Frederico Gil 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 and there were wins elsewhere for Sam Querrey, Stanislas Wawrinka and Nicolas Almagro.

However, Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic is out - beaten 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 by Australian teenage qualifier Ryan Harrison.

Poor Andy

Out of the US Open and into the arms of Brooklyn Decker - however will the poor soul cope?
