ODA drop plans for wind turbine in Olympic Park
PLANS to erect a wind turbine in the London 2012 Olympic Park have been dropped, it has been announced today.
NO GO: Plans to erect a wind turbine in the Olympic Park have been dropped after changes in health and safety legislation (Locog)
The Olympic Delivery Authority is committed to produce 20 per cent of the site's legacy energy requirements from renewable sources from 2014 onwards.
But the proposal to place a wind turbine at Eton Manor in the north region of the Olympic Park has been thrown to the scrapheap, with the ODA citing changes in health and safety legislation as the key contributing factor.
The ODA will now need to get their thinking caps on with time running out to find a suitable replacement capable of making the renewable energy shortfall that now exists.
Indeed, along with the changes in safety legislation, the ODA admitted that industry feedback highlighted a ‘challenging delivery timetable'.
But ODA chief executive David Higgins is convinced the sustainability targets will be met.
He said: "We have carried out an exhaustive process with the industry and suppliers over the last two years to find a viable way of delivering a wind turbine on the Olympic Park site.
