BRITAIN'S Georgie Stoop overcame compatriot Katie O'Brien to clinch her first singles title for three years on Sunday.

The British number five captured victory in the $25K event in Vigo, Spain, defeating O'Brien - ranked third in the UK - 7-5, 6-2.

"I've had a really fantastic week," said Stoop - who is currently ranked 190th in the world.

"I've have played some really good tennis in every match and I feel I have a lot to be proud of, especially coming through a tough final with the win. I can take a lot of confidence from this week.

"It's never easy playing matches against friends or people you train with but it was a good competitive match against Katie.

"It's my second $25k win, and I feel ready for lots more so I'll take a day off and then it's back to the hard work. I want to win more so I need to keep working."

The last time Stoop won a singles title was in 2006 when she was victorious in the $25K event in Nuriootpa, Australia but she returned to court to team up with fellow Brit Jade Curtis to finish runners-up in the doubles event.

Elsewhere, Ken Skupski and Colin Fleming continued their impressive season by scooping victory in the $50K event in Granby, Canada, ensuring the duo moved to career high doubles rankings of 106 and 108 respectively.
