KEEP REFRESHING FOR REGULAR UPDATES FROM HYDE PARK

15:47: That's it from me - fantastic day of triathlon in Hyde Park. HELEN JENKINS did us proud in the women's race but then ALISTAIR BROWNLEE really showed what a talent he is - world champion elect. That future's bright for British triathlon!

Hope you've enjoyed yourselves - over and out!

15:25: Official results:

1. ALISTAIR BROWNLEE 1:41.50 hours
                      2. STEFFEN JUSTUS 1:41.58
                       3. KRIS GEMMELL 1:42.01

BRIT WATCH:
9. TIM DON 1:42.31
15. WILL CLARKE 1:42.55
27. JONATHAN BROWNLEE 1:43.48
42. AARON HARRIS 1:45.39
43. STUART HAYES 1:45.50

DNF. DAVID MCNAMEE

14:57: Absolutely stunning performance from ALISTAIR BROWNLEE who wins comfortably. Truly brilliant from the 21-year-old - he's got a massive career ahead of him. TIM DON rolls back the years to finish tenth - great stuff from him.

Full results to follow.

14:53: ALISITAIR BROWNLEE is putting this race beyond doubt - 13 seconds clear on the final lap. The race is on for the other podium positions now.

14:45:  In the blink of an eye ALISTAIR BROWNLEE pushes the accelerator and opens up a nine second lead. With JAVIER GOMEZ out - and barring an absolutely disaster - he'll top the overall standings

14:41: Confirmed! The red flag was not waved for the leaders. Massive error from one of the officials.

14:38: Word is, the red flag, located just before the transition area to indicate the end of the cycling, wasn't waved when the two leaders - BRUNO PAIS and RUEDI WILD - came through. They've now completed NINE laps! They've gone from a 30 second to a seven and a half minute deficit! Farcical.

14:31:  That's held up ALISTAIR BROWNLEE but he quickly bridges the gap and leads the run early on. WILL CLARKE - who had the biggest win of his career at the Mazda London Triathlon a few weeks ago - and TIM DON are also in a very strong position.

14:30: Chaos in the transition! As the pack jump off their bikes and run with it to their position someone falls and there's a mini-pile up!

BUT - the two leaders who broke away on the bike have miscounted the number of laps and rode straight through the transition. They've had to go for another lap and are out of this. It's all happening here!

14:24: ALISTAIR BROWNLEE'S two biggest rivals on the run - JAVIER GOMEZ and JARROD SHOEMAKER are out. The door is open. There will be plenty of guys coming into the transition together which could be interesting - but the same happened in the women's race this morning and it passed without incident.

14:21: Two man breakaway - but the chasing pack are keeping them. They're about 18 seconds ahead on the final lap but they've put in a lot of work for not much gain.

14:15: Two laps to go on the bike!

14:11: WILL CLARKE has done a great job on the front of the chasing pack to bridge the gap. There is a long, long train of riders now.

14:06: OUCHY! JAVIER GOMEZ is down and out. He's hit the ground hard and has some serious abrasions to his back and arms. Unlucky for the lad but surely this is ALISTAIR BROWNLEE'S to lose now.

14:04: ALISTAIR BROWNLEE told me before the race that the course does not suit him. The chasing group have closed the gap even further.

14:00: Yorkshire-born ALISTAIR BROWNLEE is a Leeds United fan - unlucky Alistair. He won't care one bit at the moment though as he eyes a fourth successive world championship win. The chasing group are 25 seconds adrift. They must be absolutely motoring.

13:58: The lead pack is now 12 deep and the pace is scintillating - more than 50kph! It's not leaving much chance for a breakaway but also it's keeping the chasing pack at bay!

13:41: The BROWNLEE brothers, JAVIER GOMEZ and two others form an early breakaway and are working hard, all taking turns at the front, time-trial start. Big pack chasing.

13:35:  They're out of the water - JAVIER GOMEZ third, ALISTAIR BROWNLEE fourth, JONATHAN BROWNLEE fifth. Neck and neck.

13:32: As well as picking up a very nice gold medal, the winner of today's race will pocket $18,000.

13:29: 300m left on the swim. As expected ALISTAIR BROWNLEE is near the front.

13:25: The swim has strung out into a long line. This is completely different to being in a pool - besides the duck poo - and it's every man for himself. Legs and arms everywhere.

13:17: ALISTAIR BROWNLEE has had the upper hand on JAVIER GOMEZ on the run this season. Will GOMEZ be looking to get an early advantage? Maybe, but he'll have his work cut out and it's likely these two athletes will start the run within inches of each other.

13:13: The overall standings heading into this race are:

1. MAIK PETZOLD
2. ALISTAIR BROWNLEE
3. JAVIER GOMEZ

PETZOLD is missing today so BROWNLEE and GOMEZ both have a great chance of topping the standings by the end of the day. GOMEZ started the season injured but is in fantastic form now and will want to show his intent - BROWNLEE will have his work cut out.

13:09: Very few people in the world have won four consecutive major triathlons and ALISTAIR BROWNLEE will want to go to the Grand Final on the Gold Coast with a perfect record.

BROWNLEE senior is going head-to-head with Spaniard JAVIER GOMEZ.

13:00: It's the quiet before the storm now with the elite men's race due get underway at 1.15pm. ALISTAIR BROWNLEE is the leading home hope - after winning the three world championship races he's entered so far this year - in a field packed with Brits including JONATHAN BROWNLEE - Alistair's younger brother - WILL CLARKE and former world champion TIM DON.

FLASH QUOTES: “I tried to match her surge but Nicola is a great runner and I knew she would have a good finish,” said HELEN JENKINS“I knew they would pick it up at the end and I just didn’t have the legs to go."

11:58: What a finish we had there - a real nail-biter!

HELEN JENKINS just didn't have the sprint finish in her and finished in third place. A great result for here on home soil though - her first podium of the year. Stay tuned - reaction to come.

1. NICOLA SPIRIG
2. LISA NORDEN
3. HELEN JENKINS

11:48: 1,000m to go for HELEN JENKINS. We're on for a sprint finish!!!

11:47: HELEN JENKINS has got a great chance of gold now but LISA NORDEN is looking very comfortable. While JENKINS was world champion last year, she's never won a World Cup race. The World Cup format was similar to what is now the ITU World Championship Series.

11:45: Five becomes four. DEBBIE TANNER has been dropped as well.

11:44: width="68" height="41" />It looks like JODIE STIMPSON has been dropped from that lead group. Six becomes five. Either way, this will be a great finish for the youngster.

11:37: The lead group which includes HELEN JENKINS and JODIE STIMPSON is made up of six women. JENKINS looks superb.

11:36: To give you an idea of how talented triathletes are - it's not unknown for an athlete to qualify for the Olympic Games in both the triathlon and 10,000m. True all-rounders.

11:29: There is a great crowd - a real good turn-out - no doubt helped by the weather. The sun is now out and it's beautiful after a shaky start!

11:25: Nobody expected JODIE STIMPSON to be in this position. She's leading alongside HELEN JENKINS and a few others. STIMPSON is not doubt being buoyed by the home crowd but will probably trail off as the pace goes up.

11:22: Well that all went a bit too smoothly!

11:21: We're heading into the transition - cycling shoes off and left in the pedals. They're all off the bike and running it over to their allocated position, where trainers will be put on and straight into the run.

11:18: As far as I can see, there's four Brits in the lead group - HELEN JENKINS (who I haven't seen for a while), HOLLIE AVIL, LIZ BLATCHFORD and JODIE STIMPSON. They'll all be hungry for a win on home turf! Who's your money on?

11:15: LIZ BLATCHFORD and JODIE STIMPSON - who was crowned British Triathlon Super Series champion a couple of weeks ago - were part of that chasing group which joined the lead pack.

11:11: A few of the girls leading that chasing pack before AILEEN MORRISON - who has retired along with two others - went down missed the pile-up and have caught the leading group. Now they'll be 30+ athletes going into the final 5km lap - there's going to be bikes and bodies everywhere in the transition!

11:09: MORRISON was part of the chasing pack and they were starting to make in-roads into the leading group.  Most of those who went down are back on the bike. More news on MORRISON as it comes.

11:07: Big crash! Ireland's AILEEN MORRISON looks worst off and ca n't move off the course - with another pack of athletes close behind!

11:03: The problem - if I'm being picky - with triathletes is, while they're very, very fit, they lack the power of a professional cyclist. That's means we see more of these big packs and not as many opportunities for breakaways.

CYCLE PATHS: THe uber fit girls get going on the cycling leg of the triathlon
CYCLE PATHS: The uber fit girls get going on the cycling leg of the triathlon (onEdition)

11:02: SPENCE is down! She's off the bike! She had tried to make a break for it but perhaps but in too much. She's back on the bike but is stranding between the lead group and chasing pack.

11:00: REBECCA SPENCE has tried to accelerate off the front of the pack. The Ki wi is a very powerful athlete on the bike and will want to gain some sort of advantage going into the 10km run.

10:58: HOLLIE AVIL is also in the lead group - great stuff from the 19-year-old.

10:56: The wind has dropped making conditions almost perfect for the triathletes. I'm feeling a little cold if I'm honest and wouldn't mind the clouds rolling back! But hey, that's just me being selfish - we're in for a very fast run.

10:54: Just past the half way point on the bike. It looks as though the lead group will go through the next transitio n together which will make it very interesting going in the run. It's anyone's game!

10:50: Great Britain's LIZ BLATCHFORD is leading the chasing group. She'll be disappointed as she's normally a very strong swimmer but got dropped in the Serpentine.& nbsp;

10:48: To reduce the time spent in the transition, triathletes race in the same kit throughout - most in little more than a swimsuit!

10:43: This course is contained within the confines of Hyde Park - formerly fat boy Henry VIII 39;s hunting grounds. There are a lot of straights with few technical corners, making it not suited to breakaways. The bike portion of the London 2012 triathlon route will leave the park and take in some of the sights.

10:41: The two groups have joined together so there's more than 20 girls together with approx 25km left. A couple of athletes look like they want to make a breakaway but no-one else is interested. It's in the interest of the weaker runners so make a break for it on the bike.

10:39: Two distinct groups have developed. 12 - including HELEN JENKINS and JODIE SWALLOW in the lead group - with 12 others in the chasing pack - the gap is narrowing.

10:36: HELEN JENKINS is having a relatively quiet year after being crowned world champion in 2008. She's got her eyes firmly fixed on the bigger picture - 2012 - but is still targeting a win on home turf.

10:34: There’s an element of the unknown to this bike course. The roads were closed only a couple of hours before the race so they’ll take the first couple of laps slowly to get an idea of the corners and any pot holes or loose gravel there may be. When there’s a few laps left they’ll start to lay the smackdown!

10:24: JODIE SWALLOW is out of the water five seconds after HELEN JENKINS. Great start for the Brits all round. All 59 are out of the water and on the bike now. Eight grueling 5km laps.

10.21: ANNABEL LUXFORD ; is first out of the water in 19 minutes 30 seconds but HELEN JENKINS has had a fantastic start and is hot on her heels. There's just five seconds separating the pair going into the all important transition - races can be won or lost here. Each athlete will grab their bike but can't get on until they've run with it over the start line of the ride.

10:18: The swimmers have spread out into one snake shaped line - very fitting. Australia's ANNABEL LUXFORD leads. I'm keeping an eye open for the Brits but it's a mass of bobbing heads at the moment.

10:16: HELEN JENKINS is tenth in the series, with LIZ BLATCHFORD - not racing here - the next Brit in 32nd.

10:14: Australia's EMMA MOFFATT leads the series going into this race , with 3140 points . The Beijing Olympic bronze medallist secured wins in Washington DC and Kitzbuhel.

10:09: Our girl HELEN JENKINS was, of course, crowned world champion in Vancouver last year. The format has changed in 2009, though, and instead of the championship being determined in one race, it's contested over a nine race series, ending in the Gold Coast in early September.

10:06: You'll find members of the Serpentine Swimming Club throughout the year - and, as tradition dictates, on Christmas Day too. The lake was dug in 1730 - that's 279 years of duck and swan poo. You won't catch me in there!

10:03: And they're off! It's a clean start as the women make off for two laps of the Serpentine, totaling 1500m. Then it's 40km on the bike with a 10km run to finish. They've got to be mad.

10:02: It's a blustery day in London - that could affect the ride and run later.

10:00 The 59 starters have assembled - all looking nervous, and a bit cold, to be honest - on the jetty that has been built out into the Serpentine here in Hyde Park.

09:52: It's the women's race off first at 10am, followed by the men at 1.15pm.

09:50: HELEN JENKINS isn't the only Brit in action this morning - she's joined by HOLLIE AVIL, KERRY LANG, JODIE STIMPSON and JODIE SWALLOW

AVIL was crowned junior European and world champion in 2007, and is the youngest athlete to podium at successive debut World Cup races after finishing third and second in Ishigaki and Tongyeong respectively.

Welcome to the leafy surroundings of Hyde Park for the London leg of the World Triathlon Championship Series. There's more Olympic sport in the capital this weekend than you can shake a stick at and today I'll be following Brits Alistair Brownlee and Helen Jenkins as they swim, bike and run around Henry VIII's former hunting grounds.

Jenkins

Jenkins really does need to improve on her finish or adapt her race tactics. I was really hoping for a double British victory today but great exposure for the sport, really wetting my appetite for what 2012 will actually be like

My money is on Jenkins!
