The world number three – who slipped down a place in the ATP Tour rankings released today - returned from the US Open nursing a wrist injury but he’s determined to play his part in the match.

John Lloyd's side must beat Poland to remain the group one of Europe-Africa zone - the tournament's second tier.

"Yesterday I practised for the first time since the US Open and I think I will be okay," he said.

"It's a massive match because we have to try to move up through the groups.

"In singles we should be the favourites but they have got a very good doubles team that will make life difficult for us.

"We also have to get the crowd into it as much as possible - they are a big advantage to us."

Lloyd has named a six-strong squad for the tie, which also includes James Ward, Josh Goodall, Dan Evans, Ross Hutchins and Ken Skupski.

"Andy said he was going to play and we are pleased to have him," said a relieved Lloyd.

"When you have someone who is as good as Andy it is a big learning process for the rest of the team.

"It is a good experience for them to watch someone as good as him train and play. They will all learn from it but the important thing this weekend is to win."
