More golds for British swimmers at EYOF in Tampere
MYLES Crouch Anderson and Amelia Maughan struck double gold for Great Britain at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Finland.

DOUBLE GOLD: Great Britain's Myles Crouch Anderson and Amelia Maughan were both successful in the pool in Tampere
Northampton's Crouch Anderson, who only turned 16 earlier this month, was simply too good for his 400m freestyle rivals in Tampere, touching home in 3.55.42 while Austria's Christian Scheruebl was over a second and a half behind in silver.
"I was always going for gold - I wasn't really thinking about any other medal to be honest," he said.
"If I couldn't get the gold, it's not really the same."
In contrast, Maughan's win in the 100m freestyle couldn't have been closer.
She beat off the challenge of France's Charlotte Bonnet by just two hundredths of a second to win in 56.93 secs and immediately set her sights on another gold later in the week.
“I’m really enjoying the experience and I hope to keep improving throughout the week,” she said.
“The 50 freestyle is my main event so if I can perform well in that as well, I’d be delighted.”
Maughan also revealed how she’d won gold despite feeling under the weather.
“I have had swollen glands for a couple of days now – I went to see the doctor in the morning and he said I should be fine,” she added.
“I made sure I had plenty of rest ahead of the final and I think that helped. I am feeling a lot better now.”
Crouch Anderson then rounded off a successful day by returning to the pool for the mixed 4x200m freestyle relay - helping Rachel Martin, Matthew Parks and Kathyrn Woolston-Thomas win silver in 7.57.79 - more than four seconds behind the gold medal winning quartet from Russia.
However, Natasha Hofton and Steven King missed out on the medals both finishing sixth in the 200m backstroke and 100m butterfly respectively – events won by Italy’s Federica Meloni and Serbia’s Velimir Stjepanovic.
Germany's Alexander Wenk won the women's 200m medley but Great Britain's Danielle Lowe was eighth in 2.27.99.
