China dominate early events at World Weightlifting Championships

CHINA have swept the board on the opening two days of the World Weightlifting Championships in Goyang scoring gold in all three events.

Qingquan Long added the world title to his Olympic gold in the men's 56kg after equalling his junior world record score in Korea with a total of 292kg.

The 18-year old, who weighed in at 55.43kg, was lying second behind teammate Jingbiao Wu after a snatch lift of 130kg.  Then a mammoth 162kg lift in his clean and jerk propelled him to the top of the podium.

Wu eventually finished second with a total of 286kg while Cuba's Sergio Alvarez lifted 274kg to claim bronze.

In the tightest contest of the day, 20-year old Jianjun Ding scored gold in the 62kg category after a score of 316kg.

Indonesia's Eko Yuli Irawan took silver with 315kg while China's Fan Yang was third on 314kg.

Finally, Mingjuan Wang scooped her fourth world title in the women's 48kg category.

The 24-year old lifted a total 208kg with Olympic silver medallist Sibel Ozkan lifting a personal best 206kg to finish second and 2004 Olympic champion Nurcan Taylan third with 205kg.
