Solid start for Cherry Wilson at European juniors
GREAT BRITAIN'S Cherry Wilson is eyeing a top-ten finish in the solo event at the European Junior Synchronised Swimming Championships.
Wilson is ranked 12th from 19 after this morning's preliminaries in Gloucester. She will now look for top 50 performance in the Figures to advance to this weekend's final.
"She is really good at nailing her spins, and it was great to see that today," said British head coach Nathalie Bartleson.
"We told her to focus on her height and to connect with the judges which can really improve scores. I'm pleased that she was able to do that and hopefully she will continue into the final."
Dominant Russia have brought a powerful team to Gloucester and Svetlana Kolesnichenko shone in the solo preliminaries.
She has a three-point lead over Spain's Cristina Salvador while Greece's Nektaria-Georgia Ranioti is third and Ukrainian Lolita Ananasova fourth.
"I'm quite happy with my performance, I reckon that I could have done it better, but I'll try harder in the final," said Kolesnichenko.
