OLYMPIC gold medallist Liao Hui has captured 69kg victory at the World Weightlifting Championships in Korea as France's Vencelas Dabaya-Tientcheu failed to register a result.

The 22-year-old, who topped the podium in the same event at the Beijing Olympics last year, snatched 160kg and jerked 186kg for a total 346kg.

That was good enough for gold, as Armenia's Arakel Mirzoyan could only manage 334kg. Indonesia's Triyatno was  third with 330kg.

Romania's Ninel Miculescu, who snatched the second best of 155kg, only finished fourth with a total of 328kg after jerking 173kg and failed both his tries on 178kg and 180kg.

France's Dabaya-Tientcheu did not earn a total result as the Beijing Olympic silver medallist snatched 149kg to place fifth before failing all his three attempts on 185kg in the clean and jerk.

Liao's winning weight was 4kg less than his title-winning jerk in Beijing and lower than he lifted last month in China's National Games.
