The double Commonwealth champion, who won the 400m freestyle one day ago, secured his qualification for Delhi in another discipline.

He clocked 1.48.50 to finish nearly a second ahead of Stirling team-mates Andy Hunter and Jak Scott, certain relay colleagues in the Indian capital later this year.

"It's all going well, two finals and two gold medals, I'm delighted," he said.

"It's amazing to race at the Scottish National Championships and to come away with some medals; the standard is incredible, it's getting tougher every year, but that's what we need.

"We have three guys vying for the top spot which is not only great for us as individuals, but is also good for the relay at the Commonwealth Games."
