David Carry will compete in his third Games in the 400m freestyle while Antony James will take part in the 100m butterfly and Marco Loughran secured a spot in 200m backstroke.

Teenager Siobhan Marie O'Connor will fill up the available slot in the 100m breaststroke while Steph Proud will join Lizzie Simmonds in the 200m backstroke.

Grant Turner will join the 4x100m freestyle relay team while Chris Walker-Hebborn made amends for his disappointment at March's British Championships, booking swims in both the 100m and 200m backstroke.

In addition, some athletes selected back in March will now compete in additional events - Ieuan Lloyd will enter the 200m freestyle, as will Caitlin McClatchey, who is competing at her third Games,

Rebecca Adlington will now go for gold in three events after adding a 4x200m freestyle relay swim to her entries in the 400m and 800m freestyle, in which she is defending champion.

Michael Jamieson will now swim the 100m breaststroke while Adam Brown will compete in the 50m freestyle - although there is no British representation in the blue-riband men's 100m freestyle.

"With 44 swimmers on the team, we have seen around a 20 percent increase since Beijing," said performance director Michael Scott.

"More pleasing though is the quality of the swimmers who have been selected and the progress that has been made since the March selection trials.

“I feel that we are fielding our biggest and best British Olympic swimming team and from talking to the swimmers and staff, they are relishing the opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd in 33 days time.”
