ENGLAND fans have never needed a second invitation to sing when they're winning and at the Commonwealth Games they will get to call the tune.

At Twickenham rugby matches Swing low, Swing Chariot perennially rings out, while at Euro '96 Three Lions was synonymous with England's football matches.

The Barmy Army like nothing more than to treat cricket grounds across the world with rendition after rendition of Jerusalem and now England followers of the Commonwealth Games will get to choose which anthem is to be played in Delhi.

Voters can choose between the traditional God Save the Queen - the one for the purists, Jerusalem - for those that like their hymns and Land of Hope and Glory - sure to be popular, having once more featured at the Last Night of the Proms just a month previously.

The winner will become the official anthem of the England team in Delhi whenever a gold medal is won as well as at the opening ceremony - scheduled for October 3.

Duncan Lewis, marketing director for Commonwealth Games England, said: "We're really excited that the nation will be deciding our anthem for the Games.

"Everybody has their own opinion on what should be played, and having the public actively involved in the team's decision making is great.

"Their involvement represents everything that we're trying to achieve with our inclusive ‘We Are England' brand - bringing the whole of the country together."
