The 16-year old former junior Wimbledon champion - a beaten finalist in Melbourne last year - will now face American Ester Goldfield in the last eight.

She took just over an hour to secure her 6-3, 6-3 third round progress past Romania's Cristina Dinu.

Robson will make her debut on the Rod Laver Arena later today after her surprise progress through the women's doubles draw with Australian teenager Sally Peers.

The unseeded pair faces Russia's Maria Kirilenko and Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska for a place in the semi-finals.
