WORLD number one Dinara Safina continued to steamroll her way through the women's draw with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over France's Aravane Rezai.

The Russian is surely proving a point to those who suggested that without a Grand Slam win, she shouldn't be considered the best in the world.

As Serena Williams struggles to impose herself against lower-ranked opponents and with Venus Williams and Elena Dementieva already out of the draw, Safina is demolishing all in her path with unerring efficiency.

Rezai is an in-form player on the tour, having just won her first WTA title in Strasbourg earlier this month but Safina rolled off 11 consecutive games en route to victory.

A quarter final against ninth seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus should provide a bigger test for Safina but she will not relish taking on the number one seed, who has dropped just five games in her four matches.

Giant-killer Agnes Szavay was unable to back-up her third round win over Venus Williams as she slipped to a 6-2, 6-4 defeat against Slovakia's 20th seed Dominika Cibulkova.

That win takes the Slovakian number one to her first Grand Slam quarter final where she will face former world number one Maria Sharapova, who continued her comeback from injury with a three-sets victory over China's Na Li.

In the men's draw, Chile's 12th seed Fernando Gonzalez powered his way to a straight sets victory over Romania's Victor Hanescu in the first match on Court Phillipe Chartrier.

Hanescu had knocked out French seventh seed Gilles Simon in the previous round but he had no answer to the former Australian Open finalist's high-tempo style as the Chilean hit 50 winners in a 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 win.

Gonzalez will face Britain's number one Andy Murray, who eased to a comfortable straight sets victory over Croatia's Marin Cilic.
