Keothavong beat the eighth seed 6-2, 6-4 to set up a quarter-final date with 18-year old Japanese qualifier Ayumi Morita.

Morita also pulled off a surprise on a day when five seeds were sent packing. She beat number four seed Aleksandra Wozniak 7-5, 6-2 to set up a second career meeting with Keothavong.

The pair played in the qualifiers of the 2007 French Open, which the 25-year old Brit won in straight sets.

Keothavong is currently at a career-high ranking of 60 and has set herself an immediate target of a place in the world's top 50.
