Murray wastes no time in cruising to quarter finals
ANDY Murray has continued his unbeaten start to 2009 without breaking sweat with an easy victory over German Philipp Petzschner in Doha.
UNSTOPPABLE: British No.1 Andy Murray produces a near faultless display to defeat Philipp Petzschner
The Scot wasted no time at all in dispatching his opponent, ranked 66th in the world, with a comfortable 6-2, 6-4 victory in Qatar.
And despite not needing to produce the fireworks that saw him reach the US Open final last year, Murray was nonetheless content with his display.
"This is the kind of performance I have been working on for some time," said Murray.
"When I get on top I'm managing to stay on top for longer and not giving my opponents an opportunity to get back into the match.
"Those things only come with experience at this level. It has taken me a few years but I am starting to get better at it.
"If you can get ahead against players who have not as much experience as you have in the bigger tournaments and keep the momentum going it is tough for them to get into the match.
"I did that well in this match. Even though it wasn't my best tennis I am happy with the way I played."
The world No.4 broke the German's second service game at the fifth time of asking as Petzschner went too long with a lob having saved four break points.
Murray was imperious on his own serve and it was not long before he broke again, as the German - in a particularly charitable mood - gifted the Scot the game with two over-ambitious drop shots.
Murray then served out the set to take it 6-2 with his sixth ace of the game.
The Scot was producing a faultless display despite rarely being tested as he marched on the round three.
He broke Petzschner to love to take a 3-1 lead in the second set before serving out the match with ease to claim the victory - losing just seven points in his last nine service games.
Next up for Murray is either Alexander Peya of Austria or Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky.
