BRITISH duo Elena Baltacha and Katie O'Brien have qualified for the Australian Open, joining Anne Keothavong and Melanie South.

It is the first time four British women have reached the main draw of a grand slam tournament - excluding Wimbledon - since the US Open in 1992.

Baltacha qualified by beating Jelena Kostanic Tosic 6-1 6-3, and will face Anna-Lena Groenefeld in round one.

O'Brien beat Betina Jozami on a tie-break and will play Monica Niculescu.

British No.1 Keothavong will face Russian Anne Chakvetadze, while South takes on France's Marion Bartoli - who reached the Wimbledon final in 2007.
