ALICE Loveridge confirmed her status as best of the rest with an impressive comeback at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.
BEST OF REST: Alice Loveridge bounces back from early setback to ensure she leaves Singapore with her head held high (Singapore Press Holdings)
Loveridge was always going to be up against it in Singapore after a tough draw left her to face home favourite Isabelle Siyun Li and fellow Asian star in the making, Japan's Ayuka Tanioka.
Two defeats in her group meant Loveridge didn't make it into the last 16 but she put that disappointment straight out of her mind behind her by winning all three games thereafter to end 17th overall.
"I did the best I could but I had some bad luck with the draw really," said Loveridge. "I won the matches that my coach and I expected me to win and I lost the ones I was expected to lose.
"So I couldn't have done any more. It was just really unfortunate for me to end up with such a tough draw because both the Singaporean and the Japanese girls were very good players.
"If I had had a better draw I feel like I could have got into the top-16 but playing those two very good players made it really hard.
And with the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October looming large on Loveridge's horizon she has vowed to wring every drop of experience from her Far Eastern adventure.
"I have enjoyed everything about the experience and I am looking forward to playing in the doubles now," added Loveridge.
"It has been really good experiencing the village and a multi-sport event and I am learning a lot so hopefully I can play well in the doubles now."
